Writing Career

Before she even started elementary school, her mother taught her to read and print.  They spent hours creating stories together.  She was jubilant when her school tests required essay answers.  After all, what better way to showcase her talents?  And so began her lifelong journey as a word weaver.

In The Chebucto News, this freelance writer appears under her own byline as well as her alter ego, Sammy Sambro, a saucy sock monkey who is the mascot for the Sambro Area Community Association (“SACA”), where Lorrie is also a board member.  You can check out some of her writing clips here.

Business Career

After a lengthy career in the legal administration field, where she leapt tall judicial briefs in a single bound, charmed clients, juggled schedules, shuffled invoices, transcribed legal proceedings, met deadlines and kept all the plates spinning, she longed to go back to her roots and her true passion.

She retains her active certification as a Court Transcriber for the Department of Justice in the Province of Nova Scotia.

Training

She has numerous writing and business courses and workshops under her belt, including Copywriting, Sales Enablement Copywriting, Digital Marketing, WordPress Levels 1 and 2 certificates, Microsoft Excel, Project Management Essentials, Digital Marketing, Cloud Computing, Social Media, Marie Forleo’s B-School, and numerous programs with the American Writers and Artists Institute.  She’s also a graduate of the Kiss The Ground Soil Advocate and Regenerative Gardening Programs.

The Extras

From time to time, you can catch her on CBC Information Morning’s Community Contact segment, talking about what’s important to the people who live in her little pocket of paradise.

She’s a proud Kiva supporter, making at least one loan a month, to support agricultural initiatives, educate students and help undersupported women in other countries, enabling them to make a better life for themselves and their families.

A lifelong learner, Lorrie devours material on a variety of subjects, including regenerative, sustainable farming, permaculture, WordPress, business systems, marketing, self-development, writing, and gardening.

Lorrie’s favourite memories of her childhood are from her time on her grandparents’ farm, and there’s no sweeter smell than the fragrance of healthy soil.  Some of her earliest memories are of sitting in the middle of her mother’s garden, “helping” her tend the plants.

When not writing, she’s often found with her backside planted in the dirt, “playing” in her garden.

She’s allegedly addicted to beautiful notebooks and smooth writing pens.
